Poker players take to the casinos in huge numbers
by Thursday,25 Aug 2011 In the wake of Black Friday many US poker pros have been making regular trips to the local casino The events of April 15th that have come to be known as Black Friday have left a huge mark on the online gaming community of North America. It is estimated that tens of millions of American citizens enjoyed playing poker online and thousands made their living from the game. An elite few were fully sponsored pros meaning that they were able to play with someone elses money and split the profits. When the online game was taken away from citizens of the United States the thousands of men and women who depended on online poker for their livelihood were left without a source of income. Former online players have dealt with these changes in a number of ways. Some have left the United States for Canada and other countries where it is legal to play, others have gone to the local casinos to play in live tournaments and tables leading to a massive increase in the number of players playing live. One former fully sponsored pro poker player is Bryan Trischetta. The fact that he cant play online anymore ensured that he had to start making regular visits to Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs casino room to make some money. Its a numbers game, He says of poker, the game he used to play on as many as 10 tables at the same time. The more you play, the better you do. Bryans highest place finish since playing live casino tables was $3,176 for a 6th place finish at the Mohegan Sun which was the biggest tournament in the history of the casino. Until Black Friday, I came here to get away, Trischetta laments. Now, Im coming all the time, primarily to play the tournaments. Trischetta is still looking to produce the kinds of results that he was able to come up with everyday online and has done well in the events held at the casino having cashed in three of the four biggest events the Mohegan Sun has held since Black Friday. Each time he cashed he made it to the final table coming seventh out of 119 in April for $1,154 and ninth out of 102 in May for $618 in the $285 buy-in events. There are many players in the same position as Bryan, all of them attempting to make a living in the casinos of the United states.

Chris Harder talks about Black Friday
Chris Harder talks about Black Friday Choose your language Tuesday, Oct 11, 2011 Home > Poker Rules > Articles > Chris Harder talks about Black Friday by Tuesday,16 Aug 2011 Chris Harder is fast becoming a living poker legend with over $4 million in winnings There are tens of thousands of people all around the world who take their seats at the felt and play poker in the hope of becoming one of them, one of the elite few who can read the cards and the people holding them to ensure success at 99% of the poker games they sit down to play. The truth is that the vast majority of people are going to be sorely disappointed. Some people can do it and everyone else is giving them their money. This is a fundamental truth that Christian Harder has never had to learn. Christian is most definitely one of them Harder was winning at poker from the moment he first sat down to play. He has demonstrated his prowess both online and at live games and can make money regardless of whether he is playing in a cash game or a tournament and his online earnings are estimated at over $2.5 million, while his live tournament pay outs stand at over $1.8 million. He is fortunate to be a master of both the online and the live game as many online professionals have seen their source of income dry up since the April 15th US government crackdown on online poker that has come to be known as Black Friday. He knows this himself saying that I was in shock. I guess I kind of expected it to come in the future but for it to happen so quickly and so all of a sudden. Things literally unravelled in a matter of hours. It was quite a shock because there was no warning, he said. This young poker pro first found himself playing the game while at Salisbury University near where he grew up in Maryland. From there he just went from strength to strength. After taking on his buddies and winning in smaller games he decided to try his luck online and found that he had a talent for the game. The Black Friday crackdown came as a shock to all in the industry and Harder didnt see it coming I definitely feel bad for kids like that who have no experience and probably have most of their money tied up. It doubly hurts. Luckily I enjoy live poker and Ive played a lot of it. Players Start To Arrive For WSOP Main Event Final Table
This Sunday, the November Nine will return to the scene where they had so much success earlier in the World Series of Poker main event. The nine finalists return to the tables at the Rio on Sunday, when they will begin play for the biggest prize in professional poker today. The $8 million top prize has become somewhat of an afterthought for players over the past couple of months. Once they reached the final table back in July, the players became instant celebrities, and they have spent the past few months juggling their fame with their practice schedule. all of the players have gone over in-depth strategies in their head over and over.Sunday, those strategies will all go out the window when the cards are finally dealt at the final table. The players will be able to execute the first few phases of their strategy, but likely will have to adjust on the fly as the cards will dictate which players move along in the tournament. A bad run of cards at this point could mean disaster for some of the finalists. One player who will be able to handle not receiving cards for the first portion of the main event will be chip leader Martin Stasko. He currently has over forty million in chips, more than doubling the stacks of players in six through nine positions. Eoghan O’Dea is second with just over 33 million in chips, and Matt Giannetti is third at 24,750,000. Sam Holden is the short stack, holding 12,375,000.The players started arriving last week, and have been homing their skills by playing in tournaments and cash games. The play will continue likely up until Saturday, when players will get a good night’s rest before they begin the grueling run that is the final table. Play will continue Sunday and Monday, and the champion is expected to be crowned sometime on Tuesday. November 2, 2011Posted By Tom JonesStaff Editor, CasinoGamblingWeb.comSubmit News!

Free poker sites are on the way
Free poker sites are on the way Choose your language Tuesday, Oct 11, 2011 Home > Poker Strategy > Articles > Free poker sites are on the way by Sunday,2 Oct 2011 Hoping for changes to the law casinos in Vegas and California are starting free poker sites Casinos have made it clear that they are betting on a change in the laws on online gaming. Most online gaming companies are sure that it is only a matter of time before casino gaming is legalised and are making preparations to cash in the instant Americans are once again allowed to play the game they love. Two separate casino companies have already created their own free play poker sites. Such sites allow people to play poker for points every time they win, those points are then traded in for various prizes such as electronic goods and even cars. These sites cash in on sweepstake laws that mean players can still get in on the action provided by poker without having to break the law. It also means that when the gaming laws change they will already have some market share for when they change their setup to allow real money games.Owner of the South Point Hotel and Casino, Michael Gaughan has announced that his free poker site will have the same name as the casino and will be using the ZEN network as their framework for operating the site. The site is expected to be up and running sometime in October. In addition to prizes there are even cash gifts on offer with the site to be funded exclusively by advertising and sponsorship deals. Zen also runs the poker rooms cardplayerpoker.com and spadesclub.com and Card Player magazine. According to Guaghan the website is only the first step and he intends to apply for an intrastate license at some point in the future. The other casino to open a new site is the Barona Resort in San Diego which is launching a Beta site for a free poker room online. The only players who are eligible to use the site are Club Barona members and the site will work in much the same way as that described above. The manager of the Barona hotel and resort, Rick Salinas, has said that We are always looking for new and inventive way to excite our players and launching this free to play site is just another way to provide more fun for our players while at home. The platform is being provided by the GTECH G2 internet company and offers a whole range of variations of poker. Its great to see Lou proving such a hit in Im a Celebrity and were hoping hell show the same staying power in the show that hes demonstrated at the Poker table, said David Donovan, Chief Executive Officer of CelebPoker.com. Hes a really charismatic guy, which is why we chose him as one of the faces of CelebPoker.com. The 47-year-old actor, who also directs movies and television shows, entered the show when it began on June 1st and has been game for all the challenges that the shows producers have thrown him, beating all the other contestants to win Hang Tough a game that involved hanging from steel bars above a tank of stagnant water. The team are all glued to the coverage of the show, which we can catch over here on ITV2 and weve got our fingers crossed that Lou can win this one, added David, In some ways its a bit like poker as you need to mask your true feelings and hang in there if you want to win the big prize. CelebPoker Package Winner Achieves Ambition
CelebPoker Package Winner UK CelebPoker player Matthew Tranter took the next step in his poker career by winning a package to the Irish Winter Festival that took place from October 29th 31st, 2011. As a loyal player of CelebPoker, Matt will be aiming for more package wins in our online satellites for land based poker tournaments. We caught up with himto find out a bit more. What do you do (occupation, studies, hobbies etc?)I have been making a living by playing poker for the last couple of years. Prior to this I studied software development. I greatly enjoy skiing, socializing, reading and a wide variety of music; primarily drum & bass and dubstep which I find very helpful as a driving force during long poker sessions. How long have you been playing poker and how did you start?I have been playing poker for 5 years. Poker first caught my attention when some of the better players started to move over from the real time strategy game “Starcraft” that I was playing competitively at the time, they all showed great results and this opened my mind to the advantage of investing my time and dedication into a more profitable venture. Televised poker also added to the appeal to get involved in this exciting game; seeing the pros at the time playing high stakes tournaments for millions of dollars helped fuel my desire to learn and hopefully one day compete with and defeat these great players. Did you use any special strategy to win the tournament?I vary my play style based on the players on my tables at the time. On some tables it is advantageous to play tight (only the best hands) and some loose (many hands), however either way I will try to play those hands aggressively making my opponents make tough decisions whilst giving me information about the strength of their hands. In this tournament I was able to play a loose aggressive style (this means i was playing a lot of hands whilst betting/raising/re-raising rather than calling) and had a very large stack going into the final table.A tight player will make it into the money positions in a tournament more than a loose player, however a loose player will go on the win much bigger prizes more often when they do make the money. Any key moments you remember from tournament? The final table is the most important part of the tournament, with the pay increasing steeply with each extra position gained; here outplaying the other players really matters.I was lucky to have a 2 – 1 chip lead on 2nd place going in to the FT and couldn’t really ask for a better start. The other players were all playing tight against me; trying to avoid me at all costs unless they had a monster hand. This is always a good thing as with nobody trying to contest pots with me I was effectively being given permission to constantly steal chips from the other players allowing me to extend my chip lead significantly… a lot of the pots i won on the FT could have gone to the other player had they tried to play back at me. What do you plan to do with the prize money?I plan to use a lot of the prize money to work my way into a number of large live events. I will be playing the Irish Winter Festival tournament in October and hope that this will be the first of many over the next couple of years. It has been an ambition of mine to expand in to the live poker scene for quite some time now and huge prizes are ready for the taking.I will also re-invest a lot of the money on the Celeb Poker cash/tournament tables in order to continue progressing up through the stakes striving to improve by playing better players and to earn bigger pay days. Advice to other players? You might have to play countless tournaments in order to take a big finish or it could happen on your first one. The important thing is to not let this high level variance affect your play, if you’re not happy with your results so far it does not necessarily mean you’re a bad player as luck is certainly a large factor in poker. Keep a clear head, always be trying to improve your game (there are many resources out there for an aspiring poker player to learn from), put in the hands and the results will follow. Jamie Gold Poker
by Thursday,6 Oct 2011 Jamie Gold has started his own free poker site on the ZEN network with $100,000 up for grabs every month Although all poker players and those who work in the industry are well aware of the name Jamie Gold he has worked hard to keep a low profile since winning the $12 million first prize at the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP), still the biggest prize ever paid out to a winner of the main event. Gold is a quiet and highly focussed player who up until now has refused any and all attempts to persuade him to start a poker site of his own. Now he has changed his tune and has started his own free poker site to provide a platform for players in the US to legally play poker and win cash and various prizes as a reward for their play. The poker player has really put his money where his mouth is as he is offering at least $100,000 in cash to players every month. When talking about the new site Gold told the press that After Black Friday and all the negativity surrounding online poker, I asked myself what I could do to help our community enjoy playing a game they love legallyCreating FreeGoldPoker.com was the clear answer. He went on to explain just how it was that he came to the he came to the decision to start the completely legal poker site; This is an amazing opportunity for me to create a fun, accessible and unique experience for the poker community. As importantly, I will be able to continue to accomplish meaningful, vital and life-changing charitable goals with the additional support and commitment of the ZEN platform. It will also provide my dedicated partners a platform beyond anything I could have imagined as we are now able to create targeted demographic promotions. There is a great deal of talk around the ZEN network as free poker sites continue to pop up all over the web. The use of sweepstake laws has allowed anyone with the cash to create a perfectly legal space to allow people to play the game that they love. These sites are particularly popular with casinos looking to maintain their clientele with free poker action. The sites serve another purpose, the industry is currently preparing for a change in the law and when online poker is legalised Golds site and all of the others will switch to being regular poker sites and already will have players ready to spend their cash.

The Gold Rush Poker platform is adopted by ICON
by Sunday,11 Sep 2011 In the space between online poker and the law ICON are able to offer online poker services Since the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) ejected the top three online poker sites in the world from the US market some crazy things have been happening in the poker world over in the USA. The first thing that happened was a lot of former online pros upped sticks and left the US for a country where online poker is still legal, Canada being the destination of choice for most pros who have left. Other things have happened also, the live game in the United States has picked up in pace and in popularity. The pros who stayed have no option but to play more in casinos. Another thing that has changed is the business of poker where new companies and websites have sprouted to fill the void between the law and the desire of fans to carry on playing. One of these websites is the Independent Casino Online Network (ICON), this network has created a space whereby it can legally provide online poker services in the United States without breaking the law. This is because instead of awarding cash for each win, points are awarded which can then be traded in for expensive items such as cars, computers and ipods. The people at ICON have announced that they intend to operate Gold Rush Poker as their official poker platform. The guys at ICON have established a network allowing other casinos to participate in their poker services. By establishing a network that is open to all casinos ICON are smoothly taking market share so that when online poker is legalised they will already have all of the casinos signed up to their network. When poker is legalised again they will simply awarding cash instead of points to their poker players. The Gold Rush Poker network is a very high tech poker system that provides a really impressive platform for online poker players to practise their game. Of the partnership between ICON and Gold Rush John George the CEO of Gold rush said that “We are excited to be associated with another forward thinking companyThis partnership sets us up to be at the forefront of the future of American online gaming. By using our platform, casinos will be able to increase profit by tapping into our player base and strategic marketing campaigns. This is a great opportunity.”
